(End User) - Both the Wii and XBox have generated a good deal of buzz
so far this week, but not with game titles as you might expect. It
appears that both companies are making strides toward re-imagining
their consoles as multi-media gadgets, pushing their usability far
beyond the game realm. While initially the Wii and XBox have
influenced very different demographics — the Wii for family-oriented
gaming and a certainly advanced approach to gameplay, and the XBox to
the more hardcore gamers — the line between the two is starting to
blur...

Who really cares?
The head of Nintendo US said Netflix on the Wii is a waste of time and I
have to agree with him. Most Wii owners have never hooked up their Wii to
the internet and I doubt this new feature is going to convince them to
suddenly try.
As for ESPN on the 360...again, I have to sort of wonder why. I mean, if
I want to watch ESPN, all I have to do is flip the TV over to the
satellite box. If I'm using my 360 it's because I don't want to watch TV.
Does anyone out there look at the videos, commericals and related stuff on
Xbox Live right now? Most of it is stuff you can get elsewhere on the
internet, or just by watching TV, or is just uninteresting to me.

Actually you wouldn't.
They're talking about sports events that are not currently being shown
on ESPN and/or are only available on pay-per-view.

It's just you.
Netflix on Xbox Live is very popular. I watch movies as much as I play
games and at any given time half the people on my friends list are
watching movies on Netflix.
And I'm seeing more and more of my friends using Last.FM. I'm
streaming music that I can't find anywhere else several hours a day
rather than listening to a radio or watching TV.

Yeah I always scan all commericals, gameplay hint videos, behind the
scenes etc.
There's always free gamer pics or free themes in most of em.
Plus I won 400 MP when I entered one of those random movie trailers ,
I just downloaded gamerpics.
There's tons of extra content on LIVE I like to surf around a bit now
and then
